TOPIC: Employment Authorization Verification and Corporate Immigration Compliance.
Employers are increasingly subject to greater scrutiny of their compliance with work authorization laws. Employers with unauthorized workers face not only the possibility of civil penalties including fines and bars to employing foreign nationals in the future, but also criminal prosecution and the risk of negative public relations issues. Certain federal, state and local laws may require an employer to participate in the government’s E-Verify electronic employment verification system. For employees who require sponsorship for work authorization, the current regulatory and adjudicatory environment may limit an employer’s options. We will discuss these issues as well as other hot topics in the area of corporation immigration and employment authorization verification. We will share best practices and discuss practical solutions for HR professionals.
