Are you Chicagoan by birth or relocation?
How did you come to work with Backstop?
I made the decision that I wanted to work in the city and started hunting for opportunities. Backstop presented itself, and I was drawn in by the beautiful office space, interesting people, and opportunities for growth.
What about Backstop was appealing?
At Backstop, I had the opportunity to manage a smaller team (14), and engage in their career development.
What other roles have you held in the industry? How did they lead you to where you are now?
This is my first role in FinTech. My background is in client care and leadership. I earned a degree in Fiber Art, which primarily taught me how to give and take critique. We are all trying to produce our best work, whether that is a sculpture or an exceptional client experience. As a leader, my primary role is to help develop my team, so that they can produce their best work.
Out of all the positions you've held, which one is the most interesting?
I volunteer with Naperville Operation Snowball, which is a youth-led program that empowers teens to make healthy lifestyle decisions and have a positive impact on their peers. Snowball's mission is to establish a community of caring. The overarching message is to approach each other with kindness and empathy. I participated in Snowball as a young person, and its impact on my life is immeasurable. When I returned as an adult volunteer, I thought that it would be my way of giving back. However, working with teenagers to build their leadership skills forces me to evaluate my leadership approach regularly. The lessons from my fellow Snowballers and vice versa dictate my career. What do you like most about what you do?
I have the opportunity to support individual growth for my team members. It's incredibly rewarding to watch people grow, and find ways to aide them on their career path. I have benefited from guidance and support from our senior leadership and learned so much in a relatively short time.
Which achievement at Backstop are you most proud of?
I am proud to have transitioned the team to a global support model. We can support the growth of our APAC Client Base.
This one is all you! Tell us anything, any topic at all.
I am a yarn enthusiast with a passion for knitting. At Backstop, we put together a monthly craft night so that makers across the company can get together to work on projects. It's an excellent way to develop inter-departmental relationships and learn about cool stuff other Backstoppers do their spare time. Check out a recent blog post about this recurring event, here.
