Lawrence Levy, CEO, Enrollment Rx, @EnrollmentRx
Chicagoan by birth or relocation?
Chicago by relocation
If you relocated, what brought you to Chicago?
My parents moved to Chicago from Johannesburg, South Africa in 1987 when I was 11 years old.
How did you come to work with Enrollment Rx?
I founded Enrollment Rx in 2008 after identifying the growing need to improve upon traditional CRM technologies in the Higher Ed sector.
Which achievement at Enrollment Rx are you most proud of?
I’m proud of the fact that we’ve built the company as a boot-strapped organization. We’ve been able to achieve our success without taking external funding, which is a tremendous testament to our incredible team’s talent and ingenuity.
What’s your outlook on the local tech industry?
Firstly, Salesforce recently announced a huge expansion in Chicago and anticipates adding 1,000 jobs over the next 5 years in their organization alone. Illinois offers a great combination of a talented workforce and a thriving tech community. As a centrally located business hub, the area affords flexible employment opportunities in an increasingly digital world.
What did you want to be when you were in kindergarten?
I couldn’t decide between a pilot and game ranger.
What’s the best advice that you’ve ever received?
If you’re in business and you’ve never had a black eye, then you’re not really in business.
Who has had the biggest influence on your career?
My father, who is a tremendously successful entrepreneur and encourages me and all my siblings to bravely pursue our business goals. My father, of course, is second only to my mother and my wife who make all things possible.
What is the one thing that keeps you up at night?
Only one thing?
What kind of technology could you not live without?
That’s an easy one - Salesforce. All of Enrollment Rx’s products are built 100% natively on the Salesforce platform. They cannot operate without Salesforce.
What is the coolest thing you’ve developed or project you’ve worked on?
While Enrollment Rx has developed several products over the years, our product known as FormBuilder Rx has perhaps been the most transformative in its ability to easily configure custom UI for Salesforce’s Community Cloud. This has allowed us to rapidly complete projects in as little as 100 hours versus over 2,000 hours of software development.
If money was no object, what would your dream job be?
I would be a fishing charter skipper.
This one is all you! Tell us anything. Any topic at all.
Enrollment Rx is hosting our annual conference, Building on the Best, at Saint Louis University on May 20-22. All higher ed institutions are welcome to join us as we talk about maximizing Salesforce for recruitment and admissions. Please visit the event page here.
