Last week, the 20th Annual ITA CityLIGHTS Awards were a rousing commemorative event featuring a sold-out crowd of Chicago tech leaders last week. Celebrating the 20-year history this year's awards featured the Toast of Chicago which was a "best of the best" of the previous two decades of award winners. Many times throughout the evening, attendees were given a glimpse back into the last 20 years for awards, and the program highlighted the year 1999 for the presenters and the world of technology. The takeaway: while Chicago tech was barely a blip in the city in '99, through the accomplishments of many ITA CityLIGHTS award winners and nominees it has become critical to the future success of the economy and Chicago as a whole. This cruciality read in the energy, conversation and acceptance speeches across the room over the course of the night.

The veritable who's who of Chicago tech crowd were all witness to one of the most diverse list of winner's in CityLIGHTS award history. Two winners of note:

-Henrietta "Hettie" Dombrovskaya, Associate Director Database Architecture, Braviant Holdings was the first-ever female-identifying winner of the Technologist of the Year Award

-Solstice led by female CEO Kelly Manthey won for Outstanding Company Culture

Beyond the diversity of winners, this year's awards were landmark for the depth and breadth of organizations nominated from fledgling upstarts to companies with nearly two decades of achievement. All of the success is a testament to a community that is collaborative and ever-burgeoning making waves beyond the shores of Lake Michigan from coast to coast.
