What sets you apart from the competition?
We are more than the workflow solution our customers rely on. Our technology and our people combine to be an integral part of what our customers do. Most employees are on a first-name basis with many of our customers, and that makes a difference. Everyone is passionate about helping our customers and that comes through in everything we do. Our values are simple—teamwork, tenacity, service, agility, and being genuine. We really do live these every day.

We have a highly knowledgeable, dedicated group of people who collaborate well and are proud of their accomplishments. How has your company culture evolved as CSC Corptax has grown?
While we’ve consistently adapted to market and tax law changes and taken on new challenges, the core of who we are as a company and as a team has strengthened. After more than 40 years in business, we’ve retained the same values and are a highly professional group of individuals that strive to provide our customers with a timely, high-quality, evolving product that allows our clients and ourselves to see the value we’re providing firsthand.
What motivates your employees to come to work every day?
We’re motivated because we share ideas, work together, and support one another. We take pride in ownership of our projects and careers, giving us a real stake in the collateral, service, and support we provide to our customers. This makes CSC Corptax an incredible place to work. We enjoy working with our customers and we really listen to them, providing enhancements based on their feedback. Many team members have worked in the industry and understand the pressures of completing filings accurately and timely. As a result, we strive to provide an easy-to-use tool and excellent customer experience.
What do you do to encourage growth and development for your employees?
At CSC Corptax, we’re invested in the professional growth and development of our employees by encouraging them to share knowledge, learn new things, and try new ideas. We provide team members with opportunities to lead new projects so they can gain expertise in an area of tax and also on software development processes. This is supported by solving challenges together with collaboration across teams. An example of this was when the software development group took time to walk the tax teams through the source code. This leads to a better understanding of the entire process, and ultimately leads to a better product.
Additionally, we also rotate assignments so that team members have the opportunity to broaden their knowledge, as well as work with new teams.
What’s the biggest obstacle you’ve faced as an organization, and how did you overcome it?
Our reaction to the COVID-19 crisis is a great example of our ability to face obstacles successfully. Because we’re a technology-forward organization, we had the capability for the entire company to work from home the same day we made the call to do it. We did this easily because we’ve always promoted flexible schedules and remote work options. Our investments in equipment, communications, and systems allow us to have teams work remotely while still operating normally. Before the crisis, about one-third of the company worked remotely every day and many others regularly worked from home one or two days a week. This prepared us for our temporary “new normal” of everyone working from home without impacting the business.
Where do you see CSC Corptax in the future?
We will continue to find ways to make our customers’ processes even more efficient through innovation and cutting-edge technology. Our system allows customers to achieve breakthrough performance using the first and only single system on the market for end-to-end tax, but we’re always examining ways to support industry advancements. We’re agile and proactive with our customers’ requirements on how something should work and what they’re trying to achieve. Looking to the future, we want to make those processes easier using machine learning. At CSC Corptax, we’re focused on the long term to really build an enduring product, or as we like to say, “Lot’s done, lots to do.”
What made you choose Chicago as the CSC Corptax headquarters?
We are headquartered in the Chicago Metropolitan area with offices in Buffalo Grove and downtown because we love being rooted in this dynamic tech community. There’s a lot of great talent here.
