First, we’d like to thank the amazing mentors and instructors who dedicate their time to our Women Influence Chicago Accelerator program. We also would like to thank Ethos and the WIC Advisory Board for their contributions and support. You continue to inspire not only the participants, but the entire tech community. The Spring cohort was the first of its kind to turn completely virtual, something that had to be done in light of current circumstances. During this time, I’m sure we’ve all had the same concern, “Will the connections and relationship building experience be altered being virtual?” The answer is yes. If you have an incredible group of people, like our participants, instructors, and mentors, then the connection can be even stronger. This cohort and WIC graduation proved that.

Our mentors shared some of their final words of encouragement and advice:

  • “Don’t play small, it serves no one. Acting small and playing it safe does not help anybody.” - Antonio Garcia, Founder of Dadwell & Co. and Vice President of Diversity & Inclusion for AIGA Chicago.

  • “Be the rock because people freak out. Do not be the one that freaks out, be the one that people can go to for centering and confidence.” - John Higginson, Chief Technology Officer, Groupon

  • “Stay true to your goals. Diligently follow your goals and you’ll see results.” - Palak Jain, Chief Technology Officer, CapMan.

  • “Show your work and make sure to take credit for it. When you do that you can take a position every single time. Read as much as possible and understand that your role is going to change consistently because the world is always changing.” - Alida Miranda-Wolff, CEO and Founder, Ethos

Our incredible graduates had a few words they wanted to share about the program:

  • “I came to this cohort with low confidence. After this program, I grew so much. I now recognize the group of people supporting me.” - Maggie Wang, Senior Interactive Designer, Motorola Solutions

  • “I’ve always had big dreams and they’ve either been laughed at or pushed aside. This is the first group that I’ve shared my dreams with and been told I can do it and how to get there.” - Mariyam Khalid, Software Engineer, Narrative Science

  • “Thank you to Ethos, ITA/1871, and mentors. I feel so empowered to be a better leader. Thank you to everyone else in this program.” - Meagan Lynch, Director of Product, Numerator

  • “This program helped me identify the areas I need to work on. The community aspect was key, everyone was keen on helping each other.” - VP Veerasubramanian, Design Manager, Motorola Solutions

  • “The care, detail and thought of this program was truly remarkable.” - Sanika Natu, Senior Associate, PwC

A final thank you again to all of the WIC participants, mentors,  instructors, and companies. You all made the virtual Spring cohort a complete success and we can’t wait to see what you'll do next. P.S. - We know it will be great!
